Transforming the Big Screen Experience to Reach Milwaukee’s Moviegoing Audiences

A good movie can touch the heart, challenge the mind, inspire the soul, and even tickle the funny bone. And while a film’s message or a particular scene may linger in our minds, it is often the physical aspect of moviegoing that adds to the experience: waiting eagerly in line to get tickets from a vintage ticket booth, the smell of fresh popcorn in the lobby, and carefully choosing a favorite vantage point in the theater.

Of course, that all changed in 2020. When the pandemic forced area theaters to close, including Milwaukee Film’s Oriental Theatre, it left the status of the 12th annual Milwaukee Film Festival in doubt. Fortunately, Milwaukee Film decided — as they say in the business — that the show must go on.

Transforming the festival to an all-virtual experience requires a lot of pivots and adjustments, like finding ways to effectively engage audiences at home. And that’s where Milwaukee Film enlisted Zizzo Group to help. A key part of the festival again this year is the Double Up Challenge, a matching-fund drive to help sustain Milwaukee Film and all it does for the community. ZG created and produced a short spot to build awareness around this year’s challenge, and to drive action from the virtual audiences at this year’s festival.

Playing off MFF’s theme of “Adapted for your screen,” the video shows a variety of ways people can now enjoy the festival virtually, while highlighting the importance of supporting Milwaukee Film.

“We love everything about the video,” said Sebastian Mei, Chief Marketing and Development Officer for Milwaukee Film. “We’re always thankful for the great work ZG does for Milwaukee Film.” The video debuts at this year’s festival, playing before each virtual showing throughout the festival’s run (October 15-29).

Zizzo Group is proud to partner, year after year, with Milwaukee Film. To see more of our work from this collaboration, watch the [2017 membership video], [2018 Membership video], and [2019 Membership video].
